Facilities and Technological and Scientific Services

Major research infrastructures of the Centre

IPTC has an important infrastructure to support high-level research. This infrastructure provides the experimental, computational, and testing environments needed to support research in the two research areas. The Center’s facilities include:

  • Radiofrequency Measurement and Fabrication Facilities. Laboratories dedicated to radiofrequency system measurement, characterization, and fabrication. IPTC also has specialized laboratories for antenna homologation and testing, covering a total of 400 square meters: the RF Anechoic Chamber is the third biggest chamber in Europe (after ESA’s Hertz 2.0 Test Chamber (Noordwijk, Netherlands) and Desay SV Europe’s Antenna Measurement Chamber (Weimar-Legefeld, Germany)).
  • Big Data Processing and Machine/Deep Learning. The IPTC’s resources include distributed computing platforms with 24 A100 GPUs and 6 large servers, in collaboration with UPM’s AI.NNOVATION SPACE and Computational Simulation Research Center (CCS). This facility also has big data processing cloud using Kubernetes and OpenStack, supporting Apache Flink, Spark Scala, and FIWARE. There’s an anechoic chamber for high-quality audio recording. It is a soundproof and echo-free room designed for precision audio capture, minimizing external noise and reverberation. This facility is important for acoustic research and speech analysis. Finally, IPTC maintains extensive datasets for video, behavior, and speech recognition research, including examples like Art-GenEvalGPT and UPFall Dataset.
  • Living Labs and Multimedia Production Services. The experience lab of Spaces of the Future is a 160 sq.m. facility with IoT devices and interaction tools for testing innovative services. Dem-3DTV is a dedicated lab for advanced 3D TV, multimedia, and video technology.
  • Human Behaviour R&D. OptiTrack 3D Motion Capture and Tracking System (12-camera setup) – High-precision system for real-time motion tracking and biomechanical analysis in human behavior studies.
  • Neurotech Lab. The lab includes a CortiVision PhotonCap fNIRS System for high-resolution brain activity monitoring, Tobii Pro Eye-Tracking Systems (Glasses 3 and Nano) for detailed visual attention research, and Minimum Dry EEG Systems (Diadem and Hero) for comfortable, high-quality neurophysiological measurements.

Access to National and International Scientific Facilities

IPTC maintains active collaboration with national and international research centers and industry partners, having access to advanced infrastructure. IPTC shares high-performance computing and quantum communication resources with UPM centers like AI-Innovative Space and Computational Simulation Research Center (CCS) and co-develops neurotechnology platforms with AI-Innovative Space and CTB for research in neuroscience and human-centered AI. Strategic partnerships with companies and public entities, such as the 5GMadNet initiative with Madrid City Council, support applied research and 5G experimentation in real environments.
