ETSIT doctoral student, winner of the internal phase of ‘Tu Tesis en Tres Minutos’

The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) now has its winners of the internal phase of the Tu Tesis en Tres Minutos contest. The first place went to Ignacio Esteban López Delgado, a PhD student at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT). He will be the UPM representative in the Madrid regional final in the area of engineering and architecture. The competition challenges doctoral students to explain the relevance and impact of their research in an attractive and intelligible way to a non-specialist audience in a maximum of three minutes.

The winners of the two main awards and the public prize pose with the academic authorities.
López Delgado, who is studying for a PhD in Communications Technologies and Systems, won with a presentation entitled Radar Network for the Detection of Parkinson’s Disease. In second place was Carlos Segovia San Benito (PhD in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences) for a presentation entitled Safety or performance? In addition, Jorge Rodríguez Muro (PhD in Photovoltaic Solar Energy) won the public prize for Solar cells based on 2D materials.
Segovia will also compete in the regional final, which will take place on June 13 at th Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM); in his case, in the health sciences category. The participation of the UPM will be completed with María Rosa Badías Herbera (arts and humanities) and Arantxa Ferrer Carrasco (sciences). The four representatives have been chosen among the 16 finalists previously selected from all the nominations received, a total of 50.
The awards were presented on June 2 in a ceremony presided over by the vice-rector for Research and Doctoral Studies, Luis Gómez, and the director of the International Doctoral School, Patricia Giraldo. Each finalist received 200 euros, while the two main prizes and the special prize of the public were rewarded with 500 euros. “You have turned your theses into exciting and inspiring stories. Learning to connect with a non-specialized audience, disseminating and communicating is no longer something you have to do.
