The Association of Telecommunications Engineers awards the academic excellence of two researchers of the IPTC

The Official College of Telecommunication Engineers (COIT) has recognised the academic excellence of two researchers of the Information Processing and Telecommunications Center, graduates at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT) at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Carmen Sánchez Zas was honoured for her doctoral thesis, and María Guijarro Mortuoa for her master’s dissertation. In total, the Awards for Excellence in Telecommunication Engineering, presented by COIT on 6th June in Madrid, acknowledged the talent of 14 young graduates from over 75 candidates representing around twenty universities.

Currently an assistant lecturer at ETSIT, Carmen Sánchez won the Isdefe Award for Best Doctoral Thesis in Security and Defence. Her work, supervised by Víctor Villagrá and Xavier Larriva, is titled Proposal of a cyberattack characterisation model for cyber situational awareness environments. In December, this thesis also received a commendation in the annual awards of the General Engineer D. Antonio Remón Zarco del Valle Chair, which is a collaboration between the UPM and the Centre for National Defence Studies (CESEDEN).

María Guijarro, who is currently undertaking her Doctorate in Communication Technologies and Systems at ETSIT, was awarded the Hisdesat Prize for Best Master’s Dissertation in Government Satellite Services. The title of her study, supervised by José Manuel Fernández González, is Analysis, Design, Manufacture and Measurements of Metasurfaces for Low Observability. In the most recent edition of the awards granted by the General Engineer D. Antonio Remón y Zarco Chair, she also won in the category for best master’s dissertation.
