UPM Conecta: A Week of Knowledge, Creativity, and Responsible Innovation

13/11/2025

UPM Conecta is a flagship initiative of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) that seeks to transform the university into a vibrant hub of collaboration, creativity, and social engagement. Held twice per academic year, the program will run from November 17–21, 2025, and March 16–20, 2026. During these weeks, traditional academic routines will give way to a multidisciplinary agenda of workshops, conferences, hackathons, cultural exhibitions, sports, guided visits, and research presentations, all designed to strengthen connections across UPM’s diverse communities.

Among the standout activities organized by the IPTC are:

  • Data Play: Creativity Unleashed (Nov 18), led by José Luis Blanco Murillo, which introduces participants to generative digital tools and their role in creative expression. Through interactive sound experiments, short presentations, and a collaborative workshop, attendees will explore how algorithms and artificial intelligence can reinterpret information through sound. The session will also feature a screening of El testigo, a short film presented at Cannes, showcasing the use of generative techniques in sound design.
  • Visit to the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) (Nov 20), coordinated by Ramón Martínez Rodríguez–Osorio, offering a guided tour of ESA’s scientific operations hub in Villafranca del Castillo. Participants will learn about ESAC’s role in supporting astronomy and solar system missions, and its growing importance as an international scientific reference point.
  • Responsible Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Ethical Dilemmas (Nov 21), organized by Santiago Andrés Azcoitia, which brings together professors, students, and civil society representatives to debate the ethical challenges of AI. Issues such as bias, transparency, sustainability, and social responsibility will be discussed, with students presenting innovative case studies and opening the floor to public debate.

Registration is open at www.upmconecta.es, with priority until October 31, 2025, for UPM students, faculty, researchers, and staff. From November 1, external participants may also join selected activities.

UPM Conecta is not just an academic event but a collective opportunity to strengthen the university community, showcase excellence, and reflect on the cultural, social, and ethical dimensions of innovation.
