IPTC Researchers Join EU-Funded ON-COME Project to Transform Psychosocial and Nutritional Care for Young Cancer Patients

13/11/2025

The ON-COME (Paediatric Oncology Network and COmmunication on the Mind-body-Environment relationship) project, launched in October 2025 under the EU4Health programme, aims to revolutionise the psychosocial and nutritional care provided to children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer across Europe.

Led by a consortium of European institutions — including researchers from the IPTC — ON-COME seeks to standardize best practices and establish a unified system for high-quality psychosocial and nutritional care. The project will develop AI-driven digital tools to support healthcare professionals and caregivers in delivering personalized, holistic treatment, while also creating innovative training programs for clinical teams.

IPTC researchers will contribute to the development of digital solutions and evidence-based models that integrate mind–body–environment interactions into patient care. These innovations will help address the complex emotional, neuropsychological, and nutritional challenges faced by young cancer patients and their families.

Through its collaborative approach, ON-COME aims to reduce inequalities in care, promote knowledge sharing, and ensure that all European patients have access to comprehensive psychosocial support. The project’s findings and digital applications are expected to influence future European health policies and clinical standards in paediatric oncology.

Context

EU4Health is the fourth and largest of the EU’s health programs. It goes beyond an ambitious response to the COVID-19 crisis to address the resilience of European health systems.

The program provides funding to national authorities, health organizations, and other bodies through grants and public contracts, contributing to a healthier Europe.

HaDEA manages the majority of the total EU4Health budget and implements the program by managing calls for proposals and tenders between 2021 and 2027.
