IPTC Strengthens Emergency Response Skills

On June 3, members of the Information Processing and Telecommunications Center (IPTC) took part in the 10th SIMU UPM Cardiovascular Recovery Course held at SimuPAZ, the Advanced Clinical Simulation Center of Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid.

The training focused on Basic Life Support (BLS), providing participants with practical skills to respond effectively during the first critical minutes of cardiac arrest. Through hands-on exercises with simulation mannequins and realistic emergency scenarios, IPTC members learned how to recognize cardiac arrest, activate emergency services, and perform high-quality chest compressions.
This type of training is essential for creating cardio protected environments, as immediate intervention within the first 3–5 minutes can significantly increase survival rates and reduce the risk of severe neurological damage.
The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is certified as a cardio protected
institution, and the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de
Telecomunicación (ETSIT) is equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Several AEDs are distributed across the various buildings, floors, and concierge areas within the ETSIT/ETSIDI complex. In the event of an emergency, you should immediately go to the main concierge desk, where staff are trained and informed about emergency response protocols. At ETSIST (South Campus), the AED is located in Block III, on the first floor, mounted on the wall directly opposite the concierge desk.
Thanks to the Basic Life Support (BLS) training received by our colleagues from the IPTC, we are building a safer environment for our entire community.
