Mateo Cámara Largo Receives Artificial Intelligence Award at the 10th Night of Telecommunications in Madrid

The Spanish Association of Telecommunication Engineers – Madrid (AEIT-Madrid) celebrated the 10th edition of the Night of Telecommunications in Madrid on April 28 at the Real Casino of Madrid. This landmark brings together leading professionals from academia, industry, and institutions to recognize excellence and foster collaboration in technological innovation and digital transformation.
Among this year’s awardees, special recognition in the Artificial Intelligence category was granted to Mateo Cámara Largo, a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). He was honored for his contributions to deep learning applied to signal processing, including audio and speech technologies. Cámara Largo is also a member of the Information Processing and Telecommunications Center (IPTC), where he conducts advanced research at the intersection of AI and telecommunications.
His career spans academic research, teaching, and international experience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as entrepreneurial initiatives in location intelligence. His award highlights his growing impact in applied artificial intelligence.

The event also recognized several other distinguished professionals and organizations:
- Geostrategy and Technological Sovereignty: Narcis Cardona, former director of iTEAM and current director of the 6G Joint Innovation Centre, as well as Vice President of the One6G Association. He was recognized for his leadership in the development of strategic communication technologies at an international level.
- Quantum Technologies: Ángel Álvaro, Technical Director of the Spanish GEO QKD project at Thales Alenia Space Spain, for his work advancing quantum communication solutions in the space sector.
- Cybersecurity: Pedro Peris López, professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and cybersecurity expert, for his contributions to research and the protection of digital systems.
- Space and Defense Technology: Airbus Defence and Space Business Unit, recognized for its key role in driving innovation and leadership in the global aerospace and defense industry.
- Biomedical Engineering: José Carlos Fernández de Aldecoa, telecommunications engineer and a leading figure in biomedical engineering, for his contributions to technological innovation in healthcare.
- Social Commitment (ex aequo): The City Council of Las Rozas, for its entrepreneurship and innovation initiatives through Las Rozas Innova; and Ana Herrero, Director of Business Development and Entrepreneurship, for her leadership in fostering a dynamic and impactful entrepreneurial ecosystem.
- Data Economy and Digital Value (ex aequo): The Ayuntamiento de Málaga, for its pioneering role in smart city solutions and data-driven governance; and Alicia Izquierdo García, Deputy Mayor responsible for innovation and digitalization, for promoting technological investment with social impact.
This year’s edition gathered prominent figures from the academic, institutional, and business sectors, reinforcing the importance of telecommunications engineers in shaping the digital future.
