🏆 IPTC Researchers from ETSIT Honored at National URSI Symposium

12/09/2025

Doctoral students Javier Melendro Jiménez and Sergio García Martínez, both members of the Information Processing and Telecommunications Center (IPTC), have been recognized for their outstanding research at the national symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), held in Tarragona. Javier Melendro received the top Young Researcher Award for his work on a 3D-printed loxodromic polarizer designed for Ka-band omnidirectional antennas. His thesis is co-directed by Adrián Tamayo and Pablo Sánchez, both members of the IPTC.

Sergio García, also affiliated with IPTC, earned an honorable mention for his contribution on a robust W-band waveguide filter fabricated using stacked metallic layers. His design demonstrates high performance at millimeter-wave frequencies with low complexity and cost.

Alongside them, Jorge Sánchez and María Guijarro—also doctoral candidates at ETSIT—received honorable mentions for their respective innovations in Ka-band lens antennas and radar cross-section reduction using metasurfaces on UAVs.

These achievements underscore the excellence of ETSIT’s research groups and the impact of IPTC’s interdisciplinary approach, which bridges theoretical modeling, experimental validation, and advanced fabrication techniques. The awards reflect the growing relevance of IPTC-led research in the fields of electromagnetics, telecommunications, and applied physics.
