🎉 Two Young IPTC Researchers Honored at the URSI 2026 National Symposium

The URSI 2026 National Symposium, held from 2–4 September in La Laguna, once again brought together Spain’s radioscience community to celebrate research excellence, emerging talent, and the scientific contributions that drive the field forward. During the Gala Dinner, the organization presented the URSI‑Spain Young Scientists Awards 2026, selected from 59 submitted papers, with 7 finalists.
This year, the Information Processing and Telecommunications Center (IPTC) at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid stood out prominently thanks to the recognition earned by two of its young researchers.
🥈 Second Prize: Marta Ferreras (IPTC‑UPM)
The second prize was awarded to Marta Ferreras, researcher at the IPTC, for her work “Miniaturizing front-illuminated CMOS terahertz sensors using on-chip PIFA antennas.”
The study, co‑authored with Rubén Sanz‑Sánchez and Jesús Grajal (IPTC‑UPM), presents key advances in the miniaturization of CMOS terahertz sensors.
🥉 Third Prize: Jorge Calatayud Maeso (IPTC‑UPM)
The third prize went to Jorge Calatayud Maeso, also from the IPTC, for the work “Análisis y optimización de mallados no redundantes multisonda en campo cercano plano.”
The research, carried out with Celia Fontá Romero, Manuel Sierra Castañer (IPTC‑UPM), and Ana Arboleya Arboleya (URJC), introduces significant improvements in near‑field measurement techniques.
👏 Congratulations from the IPTC Community
The entire IPTC team extends its warmest congratulations to Marta Ferreras and Jorge Calatayud for this outstanding achievement. Their success highlights the strength of the IPTC’s young research talent and reinforces the center’s position as a national leader in signal processing, telecommunications, and electromagnetic systems.
